2 “THE MIGHTY FIVE” – Their Lives And Their Music
January 9 : 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00pm on Wednesday, repeating indefinitely
Five Russian composers — César Cui, Aleksandr Borodin, Mily Balakirev, Modest Mussorgsky, and Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov — established the first native Russian musical tradition, and became so popular and admired that critics called them “The Mighty Five.” Their compositions, such as Scheherazade, Boris Godunov, Night on Bald Mountain, and Polovetsian Dances, are still some of the favorite pieces for audiences and performers alike. In this course, we will study and enjoy their wonderful music, and learn about their very different lives.
