Changing Violet One Woman Play

December 2, 2018 : 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Event Navigation

Changing Violet is a moving one-woman piece that takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride through the life of Violet, a young girl from the Bronx. Witness the awkward shifting of a young woman struggling with the painful realities of physical, sexual, and mental abuse, and her own abuse of alcohol and drugs as a means of coping. As Violet’s life changes, so do her attitude, her loves, her experiences, and her clothing.

The show is 70 minutes, performed without an intermission.
There will be a post-performance discussion with a question-and-answer session.

Deborah Ortiz started her career as a dancer for The New York Guys and Dolls. She studied acting for years and has performed in many wonderful productions such as Shophell, The Ortiz of Mott Haven, The Midnight Zone and The Gangster Diaries, just to name a few. While Deborah has extensive film and theatre credits as a performer, it is in writing that she has found her true passion. Deborah’s play Dirty Laundry received wonderful reviews in Backstage and several online reviews. She has also written Love in New York, How Do You Know? Which was co-written with Carlos Serrano and performed at The Symphony Space in New York City. One of Deborah’s proudest achievements is Changing Violet, her one woman piece. Deborah has been busy working on her first musical PYE. Deborah is a partner in Dangerous Curves Productions. The company is dedicated to helping women find their voices in theatre.
