Contemporary Abstract Figure Painting – Visiting Artist Workshop, Robert Burridge

his Painters’ Retreat pushes you out of your safety zone and into a brand new looser, abstract direction.

Day One: We will cover materials and techniques that lay the foundation for the rest of the workshop – plus Burridge’s popular warm-up exercises of darks and lights.

Day Two: Focus on loose painting and drawing the undraped model. Each day starts with quick charcoal and paint sketches, finishing up with larger surfaces and longer poses. You will be producing a fresh new body of work with your own artistic voice and point of view.

Day Three: Creative tearing and paint splashing, starting with small paper collaging – Making new work and utilizing the figurative paint sketches. Plenty of lecture and demo notes, constructive critiques and personal painting time. Come prepared to paint your own stuff! Handouts provided. No photography in class, please.

Space is limited. Students may make a non-refundable deposit of $100 to reserve their place. Full payment is due 60 days before the start of class. When the workshops are full we will take a waitlist.
