Acrylics with Mixed Media
All skill levels
This workshop will be full of techniques Carol uses in her work. It is designed for beginning painters, or experienced painters who are new to mixed media. We will start off working on a Geologic Abstract painting. You will become an expert in using texture materials that you will not find in an art supply store that are readily available at your local big box hardware store. To prepare for this part of the workshop, Carol asks you to look down! – we will use the crack patterns in sidewalks for our composition inspiration. Print out your best one(s) and bring to class. Carol will show you how to discover the best design in your photo.
Days 1 and 2 will be Geologic Abstracts. Day 3 will be Tree Abstracts.
We will prepare several materials that we will use in our abstract compositions, including Tyvek and marbled paper. Carol will discuss composition designs for an interesting abstract, color theory, values, methods of attaching materials, and presentation options for a finished piece.
Carol has several handouts explaining various techniques to help you organize your notes, and give you the fundamental elements of a strong abstract painting. You will complete at least two paintings in this workshop – faster workers can create three or more. You will experience the thrill of learning and creating abstract mixed media work.
