$20.00

Event Navigation

A.R. Gurney’s play, LOVE LETTERS is the story of two childhood friends, both born to wealth and privilege, whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. Romantically attached, they continue to exchange letters through the boarding school and college years.

As life goes on, he goes off to war, she marries but her attachment to him remains strong and she continues to keep in touch. He marries, becomes a successful attorney and eventually is elected to the U. S. Senate. Her marriage falls apart and she becomes estranged from her children.

Eventually, they become involved in a brief affair, but it really is too late for either of them. His last letter, however, makes it eloquently clear how much they really meant, and gave to, each other over the years – physically apart, perhaps, but spiritually as close as only true lovers can be.

By turns, LOVE LETTERS is funny, poignant, touching, sad, charming and thought-provoking. Please note, this show contains some adult language and may not be suitable for children.
