“Ten Steps to Write, and Possible Scrimshaw, a Historical Novel”

Manatee Village Historical Park will host a talk by Guest Speaker Dr. Erwin Wunderlich. Dr. Wunderlich will hold a presentation and discussion entitled “Ten Steps to Write, and Possibly Scrimshaw, an Historical Novel.” Dr. Wunderlich will explore how to sharpen fictional writing skills and avoid pitfalls when using historical and Florida contexts.
For over half his life, award-winning author and fifth-generation Floridian Erwin Wunderlich has been creating stories about people in our beloved state. Dr. Wunderlich’s initial novel, Salvos On The Backwater, is a tale of the Civil War set in the Florida Gulf. It won several first place literary awards including the Patrick D. Smith Award. He is also the author of Harmonica FUNdamentals with Civil War Songs: 20 Pre-1865 Songs for the Key of C Harmonica.
His books will be available for purchase after his talk. This event is free and does not require RSVP. It will take place at Manatee Village Historical Park in the 1887 Church, 1404 Manatee Avenue East (State Road 64) in Bradenton, on the following date:

Erwin hails from Bradenton. Upon graduation from Manatee High School, he attended the United States Naval Academy. Erwin’s work later included being a submarine officer, a leader in the Kissimmee River and Everglades restorations, and a civilian director at West Point. He went on to receive a doctorate from the University of Central Florida. Erwin and his wife reside in Longwood, Florida. His second Civil War novel, Drummer Boy On The Run, is due out shortly and is already receiving literary praise. The Drummer story will again have a Florida theme. In addition, Erwin has a series of Florida children’s books that he both wrote and illustrated.
