The 75th presentation of Sarasota’s Enduring Christmas Tradition: Handel’s Messiah

The Sarasota Choral Society announces its 75th annual production of the Christmas portion of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah: A Sacred Oratorio on Saturday, December 7th, 2019, 4:00 PM in the Main Sanctuary of Church of the Palms in Sarasota, Florida (3224 Bee Ridge Road). In celebration of serving as Sarasota’s traditional holiday season kick-off, concert-goers will be invited to a celebratory reception immediately following the performance in the Palms Center at Church of the Palms. Led by Artistic Director Geneviève Beauchamp, the performance will feature a prelude by Sarasota Young Voices, 150+ voice Sarasota Choral Society chorus, live orchestra, organ accompaniment by Dr. Jonathan Spivey, and planned world class soloists: Soprano Jenny Kim-Godfrey, Alto Robyn Rocklein, Tenor Brandon Evans, and Bass Jamal Sarikoki.
For those interested in singing in the chorus, rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, October 29, and follow each Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the Sanctuary at Church of the Palms until the performance. Members may sign-up online at www.sarasotachoralsociety.org or at the first rehearsal. Annual member dues are $25/person and are waived for full-time students. There are no age limits and auditions are not required. For those who do not have one scores will be available for $10.
General Admission Tickets for the performance at $25/person will be available online through our website, the church office at Church of the Palms, and downtown Sarasota at Twice’s Nice in mid-October, and at the door on the day of the performance. Please note: credit card and online purchases may have additional service charges.
For those who may be unable to attend the performance, $15/person tickets will also be available for the final Working Rehearsal on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 PM online through the website and at the door. Please note that while all of the artists will be performing that this is a rehearsal and may include some stops and starts and last approximately 2 hours.
