Honoring Local Principals
The Arts and Cultural Alliance and the Arts Education Task Force honored Sarasota County principals today at a luncheon at Art Ovation Hotel. This year marks the 18th annual Principals Luncheon and the 30th anniversary of the Arts Education Task Force.
Attendees were treated to performances by the Riverview High School Concert Choir directed by David Verdoni, The Oak Park Panther Choir led by Shane Swezey, and a display of visual art from Sarasota County Middle Schools.
Today’s keynote speaker, Jeff Poulin the Arts Education Program Manager from Americans for the Arts shared information about the landscape of arts education throughout the country. Mr. Poulin shared research that proves that not only do arts have a positive effect on students, but that the public supports it.
Superintendent Todd Bowden ended the luncheon by reminding the audience that the ‘A’ rating for Sarasota County Schools is not only because of the focus on the arts, but also because the community supports the schools.
A special thank you to Gerri Aaron and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for sponsoring the event and The Ringling for providing gifts for all of the principals.
