Local auditions by appointment

Florida Studio Theatre, Richard Hopkins Artistic Director, will be holding local auditions by appointment for the 2017-18 season at the Theatre in Sarasota, FL. Plays under consideration for the 2017-18 season include : The Blue-Sky Boys by Deborah Brevoort – When President Kennedy announced that America would send a man to the moon, the job fell to a group of maverick engineers who were the outcasts. Thrust into the limelight and lacking a road map, they find inspiration in the most unusual of places. From Buck Rogers comic books, stories from Greek mythology, and both fictional and historical characters from Snoopy to Galileo, they come to rely on art, spirituality, and inspiration as much as they do on numbers, formulas, and long hours. Church and State – by Jason O’Dell Williams – It’s three days before Charles Whitmore’s Senate re-election and he’s decided to finally tell the public exactly what’s on his mind, no filters. What could possibly go wrong? A fast-paced dramedy about faith, politics, and “The Twitter.” Hand To God by Robert Askins – In a church basement in a little town in Texas, something evil is afoot. Or, well — at hand. A rogue puppet named Tyrone has hijacked the hand of timid teen Jason and there’s nothing his classmates, his mother, or the pastor can do to exorcise this foul-mouthed demon. Constellations by Nick Payne – A simple encounter between a man and woman leads to a spell¬binding romantic journey. What happens next defies the bound¬aries of the world we think we know – infinite possibilities and the difference between choice and destiny. Honor Killing – by Sarah Bierstock – Allisyn Davis, an American reporter for the NY Times, heads to Pakistan to cover the honour killing of a young woman. Denied entrance she conducts her investigation remotely. Cultural collisions, candid interviews, and dangerous encoun¬ters cause her to re-examine her past – asking questions about forgiveness, self-worth, and justice. Blue Suede Shoes – Rock ‘N’ Roll originated during the late 40s and early 50s, taking its roots from the blues, boogie-woogie, jazz, swing, and country music. Featuring artists such as father of Rock ‘N’ Roll Chuck Berry, to other greats such as Bo Diddley, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis with songs such as “Maybellene,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” and “A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On.” TBA: Cabaret #3 which will feature male and female singers.
