The vision of SCD’s 13th Main Stage Season: ROOTED is to offer an unpredictable and unprecedented season of dance not found elsewhere in Sarasota. As the area’s premier professional contemporary dance company, SCD adds to the cultural richness of Sarasota County by diversifying the local artistic landscape.

ROOTED will open with its performance of “SCD + NOW Ensemble” (Oct 18-20, 2018), an exciting evening-length collaboration bringing back popular work, “Dreamfall”, as well as all new choreography by Artistic Director, Leymis Bolanos Wilmott, and a new composition by NOW Ensemble. Following will be “Voices” (Dec 6-9, 2018), a performance series in which four emerging choreographers – selected by adjudication through SCD’s Summer Intensive Program – will have the opportunity to expand and set their work for the main stage. “Dance Makers” (Jan 31-Feb 3, 2019) will be next on the line up featuring new imaginative dance pieces by nationally acclaimed contemporary choreographers Ana Maria Alvarez, Katiti King, Kwesi Johnson, and Kira Blazek Ziaii – as well as a Historical Ruth St. Denis work restaged by Historical Modern Dance Specialist, Jack Clark. And finally, the season will close with “Evolving/Revolving” (May 10-13, 2019), a performance series comprised of diverse, new works by past company collaborators and/or dancers Tennile Lambert, Gerri Houlihan, Claudia Rightmire, and Isa Garcia-Rose, all of whom are seeking to celebrate the past and future of the company.
