Arts Have Social Impact
Randy Cohen of Americans for the Arts creates an annual list of 10 Reasons to Support the Arts. Here at the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County, we are fortunate to see all of these reasons at the local level. This summer we are going to showcase a local example to support each of Cohen’s reasons.
Arts have social impact.
University of Pennsylvania researchers have demonstrated that a high concentration of the arts in a city leads to higher civic engagement, more social cohesion, higher child welfare, and lower poverty rates.
This summer in Sarasota, Girls Inc. partnered with Music Compound to create a unique arts experience for middle school girls. The girls participated in a week long Girls Rock Camp, where they learned about females in rock and roll throughout history and stage presence. By the end of the week, they had formed their own band!
