Arts Improve Individual Well-Being

Randy Cohen of Americans for the Arts creates an annual list of 10 Reasons to Support the Arts. Here at the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County, we are fortunate to see all of these reasons at the local level. This summer we are going to showcase a local example to support each of Cohen’s reasons.

Reason #1
Arts improve individual well-being.
69 percent of the population believe the arts “lift me up beyond everyday experiences,” 73 percent feel the arts give them “pure pleasure to experience and participate in,” and 81 percent say the arts are a “positive experience in a troubled world.”

Here in Sarasota County we have an abundance of ways to enjoy the arts! Thanks to the City of Sarasota’s public art collection, we are surrounded by art daily. Many other organizations also offer free opportunities to enjoy our local arts.

In addition, Sarasota is home to an opera, orchestra, ballet, choral groups, theaters, the circus, museums, and galleries. Plus, groups, clubs, tours, and classes provide more ways to participate.

For a community of our size we are fortunate to not only have the quantity of organizations, but we also have high quality arts organizations to increase our individual well-being.
